On Saturday night a group of Minnesota craft beer lovers gathered at the Shakopee Town Brewery for the first Great Brew Tour Wisconsin Craft Beer Night.
A few months ago Tim Tynan, one of the creators of “Comeback: The Wisconsin Beer Movie” contacted me about hosting a screening of his film in Minnesota. I viewed the movie and knew that this was something The Great Brew Tour had to do. After all, that’s what we’re all about; promoting the best beer in Wisconsin here in Minnesota.
I let Tim know that we wanted to host a screening, and I thought it would be fun to pair the film with a craft beer tasting. I went to work to see if anybody would donate some beer to us for the event. I was pleasantly surprised at the positive reaction I received.
J.J. Taylor Distributing stepped up first with an IPA from Sprecher, an Bourbon Brown Ale from Tyranena, and a Coffee Stout from Hinterland. These were all fantastic brews that were enjoyed by all. Thanks, J.J Taylor!
Point Brewery also wanted to be involved in our event, which made us very happy. We have had a great relationship with the folks at Point for many years. They have many delicious and award-winning beers that I feel are very underrated. They simply asked us what we wanted. I thought a great representation of their beer portfolio would be Nude Beach (my favorite summer beer), 2012 Black Ale (the best new beer that Point has created in the last few years), and Cascade Pale Ale (Brewmaster John Zappa’s favorite beer and a Point classic!) All of these beers were a hit as well. Thanks so much to the great folks at Point for helping us out!
I also want to send a big thanks out to the lovely Debra and my brew tour mate, Pete for pouring beers for the event. They did a fabulous job all night!
Overall, Wisconsin Craft Beer Night was awesome. How can you go wrong with great beer, a great film, and a fun group of people to share it with? I’d like to invite you to join us when we do this again soon. If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll send you an invitation when the date is set.
Cheers!
Jesse
